Local expert presents ‘Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia’

The Alzheimer’s Association Wisconsin Chapter, in partnership with The Pastime Club, is offering an education workshop covering the basics of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

This program will be presented by Dr. Christopher Koeppl, MD. Dr. Koeppl is a retired physician with extensive experience in diagnosing and treating individuals affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

Dr. Koeppl will provide a general overview for people who are facing a diagnosis as well as those who wish to be informed and will cover:

• The relationship between Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

• Brain changes that happen in people affected by Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

• The process of obtaining an accurate diagnosis for memory concerns.

• The risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

• An overview of FDA-approved treatments for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Additionally, staff from the Alzheimer’s Association and The Pastime Club will explain helpful resources for individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia.

In the United States alone, more than seven million individuals are living with Alzheimer’s and 16 million are serving as their unpaid caregivers. The disease is a global crisis that impacts numerous families right here in the Northwoods. However, no one has to face this disease alone or without information.

The Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia workshop will be held on Tuesday, June 10, at the Ascension Lutheran Church in Minocqua (7937 Highway 51 South) from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
