Girls’ soccer: Waupaca 2, Rhinelander 1
The Rhinelander High School girls’ soccer team was upset by Waupaca 2-1 in the regional finals Saturday night at Mike Webster Stadium
Vivian Lamers scored for the Hodags in the ninth minute, but Ava Kneer tied the game on a free kick in the 27th minute and Taylor Kling put the Comets ahead on a header off a corner kick in the 42nd minute.
Waupaca outshot Rhinelander 22-17 in the contest and had an 11-6 edge in shots on goal. Rylee Mickevicius made nine saves in defeat.
Rhinelander ends the season with a record of 13-6-0.
Track & Field: Rhinelander at WIAA state
Aila Bergman broke her own school record and finished on the podium in the girls’ 300-meter hurdles Saturday at the WIAA state track meet in La Crosse.
Bergman ran the race in 44.79 seconds to finish fourth overall. Osceola’s Elletta Uddin won the race in a D2 state-record time of 42.56 seconds.
Bergman’s finished helped Rhinelander finish tied for 35th at state with six points. Macy Myers was the team’s only other scorer, with her eighth-place finish in pole vault on Friday.
