RHS Sports recap: Thursday, June 5
Baseball: Mosinee 9, Rhinelander 4
Mosinee did all of its damage in innings 2-4 Thursday as it defeated the Rhinelander High School baseball team 9-4 in a WIAA D2 regional final in Mosinee.
Mosinee scored three times in the second, tacked on two in the third and four in the fourth to jump out to a 9-1 lead.
Dylan Vanderbunt had an RBI single for the Hodags in the third inning and Rhinelander scored three times in the fifth thanks in part to RBI singles by Seth Nofftz and Sawyer Bishop. Bishop had two hits for Rhinelander, which was outhit by Mosinee 10-8.
Jackson Waydick was touched up for seven runs on six hits over 3-plus innings. Only three of those runs were earned as Rhineladner’s defense committed four errors. Vanderbunt pitched three innings in relief giving up a pair of runs on four hits with a strikeout.
The Hodags finished the season with a 13-11 record.
Girls’ soccer: Rhinelander 8, Mosinee 0
The Rhinelander High School girls’ soccer team cruised past Mosinee 8-0 Thursday in a WIAA regional semifinal at Mike Webster Stadium.
Rhinelander led 4-0 at halftime and score four more times in the next 20 minutes to bring the game to a close at the hour mark.
Vivian Lamers and Lindsey Hoerchler each scored twice in the contest. Rhinelander also got goals from Leah Weigel, Ella Miljevich and Gabby Wanta and benefitted from a Mosinee own goal. The Hodags outshot Mosinee 28-0 and had a 17-0 edge in shots on goal.
Rhinelander (13-5-0, 9-1-0-0 Great Northern) will host Waupaca in the regional finals on Saturday night.
