Baseball: Rhinelander 3, St. Croix Falls 2
Rhinelander scored twice in the seventh inning and upset St. Croix Falls 3-2 Wednesday in a WIAA D2 regional semifinal on the road.
With runners at second and third with one out, Jackson Waydick hit a sacrifice fly to right to score John Turek and Vince White scored after the Saints misfired on a throw to third in an effort to catch him advancing.
Rhinelander’s only other run came in the fifth as White walked and scored on a two-out passed ball.
St. Croix Falls scored single runs in the first and fifth and cot six hits off Conner Rappley, who went the distance in a six-strikeout performance.
Rhinelander managed only two hits in the game, but Seth Nofftz’s lead off single started the rally in the seventh.
The Hodags (13-10, 7-5 Great Northern) will face Mosinee in the regional finals Thursday after the Indians defeated Ashland 1-0 on Wednesday.
Golf: Rhinelander at WIAA sectionals
Sam Schoppe tied for 34th place Wednesday, shooting an 89 in a WIAA Division 1 sectional at Greenwood Hills in Wausau.
Schoppe shot 46 on the front nine and 43 on the back, missing the individual state cutline by 12 strokes.
