RHS golfers hand out awards

The Rhinelander High School golf team handed out its awards for the 2025 season during its banquet Thursday, May 29 at Northwood Golf Club in Rhinelander.

As it has in the past, the team determined award winners based on performance in several statistical categories.

Senior Sam Schoppe won the Schoppe Family MVP award for the Hodag golf team in 2025. The award goes to the varsity player with the lowest scoring average, which Schoppe had by averaging 81.5 strokes per round. It was the third straight year that Schoppe won the award. He joined Brad Hagen (2003-2005) as the only three-time winner of the award since 1997.

From left to right, Sam Schoppe, Hank Kowieski and Grant Gremban were the varsity award winners for the Hodag golf team this season. In addition to MVP honors, Schoppe won the team awards for most fairways hit in regulation (9.5/round) and most greens hit in regulation (7.5/round). Kowieski was the team’s most improved golfer (8.3 strokes/round) and Gremban had the team’s best putting average (31 putts/round) over the course of the season.

From left to right, Sam Strong, Chase West and Drake Nelson were the JV award winners for the Hodag golf team this season. Strong was the JV squad’s most improved player and led the team in fairways hit. West was the most valuable JV golfer and had the most greens in regulation. Nelson led the JV squad in putting.
