23rd Annual Journeys N.A. convention this weekend in Minocqua
The 23rd annual Journeys Convention celebrated by the Woods & Waters Area of Narcotics Anonymous returns to Minocqua starting at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 5.
It’s scheduled to run until noon on Sunday, June 8.
The Pointe Hotel is again the host facility with all convention events originating from the Pointe grounds.
Journeys offers four days of recovery related events, workshops, activities and entertainment.
This Journeys convention strives to incorporate nature into recovery, offering a wide variety of recovery related workshops.
In addition to the indoor offerings, workshops are held on pontoon boats, hiking and biking trails, motorcycles and kayaks. If you plan on partaking in an outdoor activity workshop, you should be prepared for all types of weather. This year 138 workshops, 90 of them on the water, are offered on a variety of related topics throughout the four days and from sunrise to midnight on Friday and Saturday.
The indoor workshop series has several hands-on, interactive offerings as well.
Workshops start at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 5.
The workshop line-up offers varied and diverse topics that are all centered around recovery from addiction.
The marathon campfire meeting will be running continually from Thursday afternoon to noon Sunday. Journeys has become a destination convention for hundreds of recovering addicts from across the country.
The Thursday, Friday and Saturday 7 p.m. speaker meetings are all held at the Campanile Performing Arts Center.
The Sunday Spirituality Speaker begins at 10 a.m. with a closing ceremony to follow will be held in the conference center at The Pointe.
The convention offers entertainment each evening, utilizing two music venues. “The Acoustic Circle,” comprised of musicians from around the Midwest, will perform at the Top of the Pointe nightly and offer an open mic for those who care to sit in.
Other entertainment features are a Friday and Saturday DJ dance and live music.
The Cardboard Regatta will be held Saturday afternoon. This is a challenging and entertaining race on Lake Minocqua with watercraft built on site using only cardboard and duct tape.
Shuttle buses will be running throughout the convention.
The Journeys Convention is a celebration of recovery and is open to people of all fellowships and to anyone who is interested in recovery.
In the spirit of cooperation, not affiliation, NARANON will be on site at The Pointe for information and assistance in starting a meeting.
Journeys is hosted by the Woods and Waters Area of Narcotics Anonymous, made up of 30 N.A. groups encompassing the vacationland area of Northern Wisconsin and the Western U.P. of Michigan.
