Hodag Little League All-Stars knocked out of state tournament

The Rhinelander Little League 12U All-Star team suffered losses in its three games at the Wisconsin State tournament Thursday, Friday and Saturday in West Bend, knocking the Hodags out of contention to advance from pool play to the championship game. 

Rhinelander lost a heartbreaker to Kenosha American Thursday night, 5-4 in seven innings. Tied 2-2 going through six innings of regulation, the Hodags scored twice in the top of the seventh only to see Kenosha walk it off in the bottom of the inning on a two-out RBI single. 

Eli Bauer struck out 11 over six innings in a no-decision in the contest. Both Bauer and Easton Sieker had two hits and an RBI in the game. 

Rhinelander gave up two runs right away in Friday night’s game to Madison Kennedy in the top of the first inning and could never recover in a 5-1 loss. Rhinelander’s lone run came in the bottom of the fist as Jaxon Eades walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Nick Schneider took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings. William Sundby had a pair of hits at the plate. 

Rhinelander fell to Whitefish Bay 6-5 on Saturday. Down 5-0, the Hodags scored five times in the fifth to tie the game, but Whitefish Bay got a run in the top of the sixth to win.

Whitefish Bay and Kenosha American were set to meet Sunday for the state title.

Hodag Lanes announces meeting dates for 2025-26 bowling leagues

Nick’s Hodag Lanes has announced organizational meeting dates and times for its 2024-25 bowling leagues. Meeting dates are as follows:

Monday Morning Ladies League — Noon, Monday, Aug. 18

Monday Keglers League — 7 p.m.  Monday, Sept. 15

Tuesday Night Ladies League — 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 19

Wednesday Tavern League — 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 17

Thursday Mixed Commercial League — 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 21

Friday Junior/Bumper Youth League — 6:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 19

Saturday Oddballs Couples League — 5 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 24

W.I.L.D. Triathlon returns Aug. 23

Join mini-triathletes at Holiday Acres Resort in Rhinelander at 8 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 23 for the annual W.I.L.D. Hodag Mini Triathlon.

The mini-triathlon consists of a 300-yard swim (or half-mile kayak), 10K off-road bike ride and 5K run that will challenge athletes among the woods & waters of the scenic Northwoods.

Registration is on going. The entry fee is $85  for individuals and $160 for relay team through Aug. 11. Week of and on-site registration is $100 per individual and $300 per relay team
