Kenneth A Dumar, 82, of Rhinelander, died on July 13, 2025, in Rhinelander. Ken was born March 24, 1943 in Milwaukee to Kenneth and Ann Dumar, their only son. As a young boy he was very busy and had many interests and hobbies. He supported his interests by cutting lawns, shoveling snow, painting fences and having a paper route in the city. He attended several public schools and graduated from Solomon Juneau High School in February of 1961. While in high school he was head of the audio video department and lettered in both wrestling and tennis. After graduation he attended MATC and took up barbering, receiving his state license and worked in several barber shops in the Milwaukee area.

In 1965 he tested for and was accepted into the Milwaukee Police Academy where he started his career as a police officer on August 23, 1965.

In 1979 he resigned from the Milwaukee Police Department and his family moved to the Rhinelander area where he resumed his career as a barber working for Richard Tracy at Tracy’s Barber Shop.

In 1981 he applied for a job with the Rhinelander Police Department and was accepted as a patrol officer returning to his career in law enforcement on October 12, 1981. In 1990 he was promoted to the Rank of Sergeant and in 1995 promoted to Captain of the Department.

A short time later Ken met Lila Jean Jones and her son, Marty. They became a family along with Cody, a chocolate lab. They were married on July 20, 2000. They had a great life together and enjoyed boating in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. They traveled most of the local trails and all of upper Michigan many times, creating beautiful memories and friends along the way.

Ken had a great life and had met many wonderful people. He always enjoyed and respected the beautiful Rhinelander area and the people that reside here. His life has always been about love, kids, friends, dogs, motorcycles, boats, entertainment, music and guitars to name a few. His only regret is having to leave all these wonderful things behind. Life goes on.

He is survived by his wife Lila, his daughters Jean (John) Schindler and Holly (Aaron) Eglsaer, his sons John Dumar, Matthew (Tina) Dumar and Craig (Ingrid) Dumar, his 15 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, his stepson Martin Jones, his nephews Dale (Bethany) Coats and Gary (Elspeth) Coats and his cousins Diana Wallner and Roger (Marilyn) Dumar. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughters Donna David and Kori Lynn Dumar and his sister Judith Coats.

Visitation for Ken will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon, with memorial services following at noon, all at the Carlson Funeral Home. Reverend Kari Vadis will be officiating.
