Douglas Stephen Hext

Douglas Stephen Hext, 94, a resident of Rhinelander, died Wednesday, July 16, at his home after a lengthy illness.

He was born on July 13, 1931, in Waukesha, the son of Gertrude Gwendolyn Jamieson and his adoptive parents Chester and Marion Hext. He was a proud Scotsman and spent many summers with his uncle Ted, aunt Emma Jamieson, and his sisters and brothers.

Doug served during the Korean War in the U.S. Army’s 7th Division, 31st Infantry Regiment. When he returned home, he married his sweetheart, Carol Ann C. Regner on April 24, 1954, and they resided in Sussex, until 1979 when they moved to their beloved home on the lake in Rhinelander.

Doug was the owner of Hext Electric, and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and his dogs. Every spring, he would make maple syrup. In his later years, he was happiest sitting on the deck overlooking the lake.

Doug is survived by his daughter-in-law, Sharon; sons Robert (Laurie) of Rhinelander, Dennis (Karen) of Atlantic Mine, Mich.; James (Lori) of Rhinelander; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife, father, and mother; son Douglas; granddaughter Megan, his brothers Robert and Teddy, and sisters Dorothy and Betty. 

At Doug’s request, there will be no funeral service, and he will be laid to rest with his wife at Northwoods National Cemetery in Harshaw.
