Thomas Edward Vanney of Gleason, passed away at King Veterans Home Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 89.
He was born in Rhinelander on August 16, 1935, the son of Irvin and Lorraine (Champagne) Vanney. Tom was a 1953 graduate of Rhinelander High School. He was a Korean War veteran proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. After serving in the military, he moved back to Rhinelander, Wisconsin where he began his career working for the Rhinelander Paper Mill for the next forty-two years then retiring in 1998. Tom was united in marriage to Beverly Durkee on October 4, 1958, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Rhinelander.
Tom was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He enjoyed deer hunting, trout fishing, gardening and being a real outdoorsman.
Tom is survived by his four children; Annette (Dean) Grant of Bundy; Robert (Margie) Vanney of Harrison; Lisa (Jerry) Hoganson of Wausau; Irvin (Leila) Vanney of Ocala, Fla.; Tom’s sister Darlene Terzinski; and close family friend Joseph Wachal. Tom loved his family, proudly cherishing his seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, Beverly L. Vanney, and his brother Richard Vanney.
No formal services are planned.
