RHS Sports recap: Thursday, Jan. 30
Boys’ hockey: Lakeland 8, Rhinelander 0
The Rhinelander High School boys’ hockey team fell to Lakeland Thursday night 8-0 in GNC play at the Rhinelander Ice Arena.
The T-Birds scored five times in the first period, twice in the second period and once more in the third period. Lawson Bain had four goals for Lakeland while CJ Smith and Brent Olson had four assists each.
Shots were 40-16 in favor of Lakeland. Asher Rivord stopped 32 pucks in the loss.
Rhinelander (2-15-0, 0-6-0-0 Great Northern) locked into the No. 8 seed for the upcoming GNC tournament with the loss. The Hodags will close out conference regular season play Friday night at Mosinee.
Wrestling: Rhinelander 54, Iron Mountain, Mich. 12; Laona/Wabeno/Three Lakes 46, Rhinelander 29
The RHS wrestling team split its dual meets in a triangular Thursday in Three Lakes, defeating Iron Mountain 54-12 before losing to the host Laona/Wabenon/Three Lakes co-op 46-29.
Iron Mountain had only four wrestlers and the Hodags went 2-2 in contested bouts against the Mountaineers, getting pins from Gage Anderson and Logan Schwinger.
The Hodags won only three of the nine contested matching against the RebelJays. Schwinger earned a win by technical fall while Reid Schultz and Avrom Barr scored pins.
Rhinelander (6-2, 3-1 Great Northern) travels to Antigo on Tuesday.
