Peewee Bs runners-up at home tourney

The Rhinelander Ice Association’s Peewee (12U) B team took second place in it bracket over the weekend in a 12-team tournament at the Rhinelander Ice Arena.

The Hodags won their pool, defeating Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells 6-0 in Friday night’s opener and the Milwaukee-based SHAW Hockey Club 4-3 on Saturday. That placed Rhinelander in Sunday’s championship game, where it lost to Burnett, 7-2.

The Hodags scored twice in all three periods during Friday night’s game against Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells. Brexton Zastrow scored five goals while Landon Oehlerking scored the other goal and tallied an assist. Oryn Soviak stopped all 14 shots he faced in a shutout win.

The Hodags rallied from down a goal in the third period to defeat SHAW on Saturday night. Zastrow scored twice, including the tying goal with 12:47 remaining. Oehlerking scored what proved to be the game winning just more than a minute later. Leonard McGeschick also scored and Soviak made 19 saves in the win.

Rhinelander couldn’t overcome four unanswered goals by Burnett in the first period of Sunday’s championship game. Zastrow scored both goals for the Hodags in that contest while Soviak made nine saves.
