Community blood drive in Manitowish Waters Feb. 6

There will be a blood drive on Thursday, Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Manitowish Waters Women’s Service League is sponsoring the blood drive, to be held at the community center near the intersection of Airport Road and U.S. Highway 51 in Manitowish Waters.

To sign up, please call the Community Blood Center at 800-280-4102. In order to space apart donors, the league request sthat you schedule by appointment.

The entire donation process is usually completed in under an hour and the actual donation takes less than 15 minutes. Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, and bring a photo ID. Donors are encouraged to eat a regular meal and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating. There is no substitute for human blood, and over 4 million Americans receive blood transfusions each year. If you are on any medication, you still may be able to give blood.
