Following Jimmy Carter’s lead

To the Editor:

I can’t help but wonder if we’d be in the same mess we are in now, if we had followed Jimmy Carter’s lead. He put solar panels on the White House roof in 1979, and the smart folks laughed at him.

We’ve now had two almost snowless winters in a row —- ruining the winter sports/business that many of us depend on to put food on the table and keep a roof over our heads. In 1986, President Ronnie had the panels removed. Well, the good news now is that we are way too smart to do something that dumb.
