Community education program to offer free ‘Money Camp’ for youth

The School District of Rhinelander Community Education Program and My Money Camp are teaming up to offer a financial education program for youth ages 13-19.

“My Money Camp” is coming to Rhinelander Jan. 27-30.

“A nationwide hands-on financial literacy program for teenagers, My Money Camp is the nation’s fastest-growing provider of hands-on financial education for students ages 13-19, bringing a fun and proven curriculum along with engaging instructors to hundreds of locations across the U.S.,”according to an SDR press release. “Retired Rhinelander High School personal finance teacher Patrick Kubeny will be facilitating the camp from 5-8 p.m. January 27-30, 2025, at Rhinelander High School. The camp will be offered for free (normally $199/student) to the first 30 area students to sign up, so please act fast.”

The four-day program introduces teens to real-world exercises in earning money, spending money, saving money and investing, the release states. Students learn how much various jobs pay and how much “real-life” costs, how to build and manage a budget, differences between debit cards, credit cards and payment apps, the magic of investing and compound returns, and most important of all, how to avoid a life-altering debt trap.

Bringing a Chromebook or laptop is encouraged, but not necessary to attend the camp.
