Squirt Bs take 4th in home tourney

The Rhinelander Ice Association’s Squirt B hockey team hosted a tournament at the Rhinelander Ice Arena Feb. 21-23. The Hodags finished fourth in their six-team bracket. Rhinelander edged Verona 4-3 on Friday night, fell to Fox Valley 8-7 on Saturday and lost to the Milwaukee-based SHAW hockey club 5-3 on Sunday.

The Hodags scored three unanswered goals to rally from down 3-1 to win Friday night’s contest. Abraham Campbell had the tying goal early in the third period and Nolan Anunson scored the game-winner with 2:26 to play. Joe Dombeck and Rhett Leighton also scored in the contest.

The Hodags lost Saturday’s back-and-forth affair as Fox Valley rallied for the final three goals, including the game-winner with 3:20 left in regulation. Zane Seubert and Campbell each scored twice for the Hodags, who also got goals from Leighton, Easton Scarboro and Anunson.

Rhinelander rallied from down 5-1 early in the second period to make it a 5-3 game after two periods, but could not get any closer in the third-place game Sunday against SHAW.

Campbell, Leighton and Anunson had the goals for Rhinelander.

Ryan Jopek played all three games in net, making seven saves against Verona, 15 against Fox Valley and 20 against SHAW.
