RHS Sports recap: Friday, Feb. 28

Girls’ basketball: Menomonie 57, Rhinelander 42

The season came to an end for the RHS girls’ basketball team Friday night with a 57-42 loss to Menomonie in the regional semifinal round of the WIAA D2 tournament. 

Menomonie led wire-to-wire and took a 34-20 lead to the break. The lead got to 25 points before the Hodags closed the game on a 12-2 run.

Senior Kelsey Winter ended her career with a season-high 16 points while Vivian Lamers added 12 for the Hodgs. Brooklyn Birt paced Menomonie with 17 points. 

Rhinelander ends its season with a 13-12 record.

Wrestling: Rhinelander at WIAA tournament

Senior Logan Schwinger’s wrestling career concluded Friday at the WIAA individual state tournament in Madison. 

Schwinger was beaten by 7-0 decision by Hayward’s Deangelo Sardina in a consolation match in the Division 2, 190-pound bracket. Schwinger finished his season with a a 41-15 record
