Middle School gymnasts compete

The James Williams Middle School gymnastics team hosted a five-team meet at the YMCA of the Northwoods Monday, Feb. 17. The Hodags came home second in both the A and B divisions of the meet, scoring 101.3 points with its A team and 128.45 with its B team.

Helen Buening was the only Hodag to compete in the all-around for the A team, taking 10th with a score of 25.35 points. Noella Tulowitzky won the vaulting competition (8.55) and had the Hodags’ top score on both uneven bars (5.3) and balance beam (5.9). Bria Robinson tied for fourth on floor exercise (7.3) while Helina Gurskey was credited for a fifth-place tie in a placement system that did not skip places for ties. She had the sixth-best score at 7.2.

Koda Kondell was the only Hodag to compete in the B division all-around (eighth, 23.5). Brooklyn Kallio tied for first on vault (8.95) while Bria Robinson was credited for third, with the fifth-best total, of 8.8. Khloe Skubal placed third on uneven bars (8.3) while Jade Chiamulera finished fourth (8.2). Chiamulera finished second on balance beam (9.0), Kondell tied for third (8.4) and Holly Novak and Raelynn Perlberg tied for fifth with the sixth-highest mark of 8.4. Kallio (7.9) and Perlberg (7.7) were credited for third (7.9) and fourth (7.7) on floor with the fourth- and fifth-best scores, following a second-place tie ahead of them in that event.

RBA hosts 7th, 8th grade tourney

The Rhinelander Basketball Association hosted a seventh- and eighth-grade boys’ basketball tournament at Rhinelander High School and James Williams Middle School Saturday, Feb. 15. 

The Rhinelander Black team took first-place in the seventh grade bracket. The Hodags defeated Lakeland Black (48-21), Lakeland White (40-32) and Washburn (55-35) en route to the title. The Rhinelander Green team went 0-3 and finished sixth, falling to Lakeland White (44-7), Washburn (45-22) and Lakeland Black (70-18).

The Hodag eighth-grade team went 1-2 on the day and finished fourth. Rhinelander beat Athens (47-40) in the opener, but fell to Hurley (46-40) and Merrill (38-14).
