Not to late to vaccinate: Get your flu vaccine today
This winter, you might see signs saying “Get Your Flu Vaccine” and wonder, “Isn’t it too late to get vaccinated?” Nope, it is not too late! While being vaccinated sooner does make it more likely you will be protected against the flu when activity picks up, vaccination into the winter and beyond can be beneficial during most flu seasons. Flu season peaks most often between December and March, but can continue as late as May.
For millions of people every season, the flu means a fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle aches, fatigue, and miserable days spent in bed. Some people are at high risk for serious flu-related complications that can lead to hospitalization and even death.
People at high risk include: pregnant women, children younger than 5, but especially children younger than 2, people 65 and older, people who have certain medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease and other immunocompromising conditions.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a flu vaccine every year to help prevent the flu. Flu and COVID vaccines are available at the Oneida County Health Department in Rhinelander, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments are not necessary.
