RHS sports recap: Friday, Feb. 14
Boys’ basketball: Rhinelander 62, Lakeland 57
The Rhinelander High School boys’ basketball team fought off a scare Friday night, holding on to defeat Lakeland 62-57 in Minocqua.
Lakeland got within two on a Jackson Burnett runner with 39.1 seconds left but Jatyn Barkus made a free throw on the other end and Lakeland followed with a turnover before Rhinelander salted it away from the foul line.
Devon Feck was a perfect 13 for 13 from the foul line and scored a game-high 21 points to lead Rhinelander. Truman Lamers added 16 points while Evan Shoeder had 12 points and nine rebounds.
Burnett scored 17 to lead three T-Birds in double figures.
Rhinelander (13-5, 8-2 Great Northern) hosts Laona/Wabeno on Tuesday.
Girls’ basketball: Lakeland 70, Rhinelander 15
The Rhinelander High School girls’ basketball team could not keep up with No. 9 Lakeland on the road Friday night, falling to the T-Birds 70-15 in Minocqua.
Rhinelander was held without a field goal in the first half and trailed the T-Birds 45-5 at the break.
Kelsey Winter had six points and 10 rebounds to lead Rhinelander. Kristina Ouimette had 28 points to lead Lakeland.
Rhinelander (12-10, 7-4 Great Northern) travels to Wausau East on Tuesday.
Wrestling: RHS girls 9th/22, WIAA regionals
The Rhinelander High School girls’ wrestling team advanced two of its three entries on to sectionals in a WIAA regional wrestling meet Friday night in Wausau.
The top four in each weight class moved on. Cassidy Lindner advanced with a runner-up finish at 120 pounds while Mya Swanson moved on with a third-place finish at 126. Miranda Daab lost both of her matches at 235 and did not advance.
Girls’ sectionals for the Hodags will take place next Friday in Shawano.
