Carey John Haustein

Carey John Haustein, age 75, of Rhinelander died on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at his home. He was born on January 23, 1950, in the City of Chicago, the son of Russell and Beatrice Haustein.

Carey worked in the car business for over 50 years, where he had much success and created many friendships. He was an avid fisherman, who grew up coming to the Northwoods to visit his grandmother. During that time, he fell in love with the area and always vowed to retire here someday. In 2020, Carey and his wife, Eliane, made their dreams come true by building a home in the Northwoods and settling in Rhinelander. They loved spending time outdoors, riding their motorcycles and hiking.

Carey was known by friends and family as the life of the party. Everywhere he went, somebody knew him and remembered the time they spent together. He instantly made friends with anyone he talked to. He was kind, generous, and always willing to help whoever needed it. He filled the lives of those around him with joy and laughter.

He is survived by his loving wife, Eliane Haustein, children: Andy Haustein, Robin (Tim) Ersfeldt; grandchildren: Brianne, Ben, Matthew, Jude, Cecelia; siblings: Bob (Patty) Haustein, Ray (Peggy) Haustein; niece Rebecca Roark, great-nephew Camden and great-niece Maci.

He is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Judith Haustein, and his parents, Russell and Beatrice Haustein.
