Winter Classic Baseball
The Hodag Diamond Club held its third annual Winter Classic tournament in the Hodag Dome Jan. 31 to Feb. 2. A number of area teams competed in the tournament, including one Rhinelander squad each in the 12U, 11U and 10U brackets.

The Rhinelander Ice Association’s Peewee A hockey team has advanced to the WAHA Peewee 3A state tournament following playdowns Sunday, Feb. 2 at the Rhinelander Ice Arena. The Hodags clinched their spot at state with a 13-1 victory over Tomahawk in the morning contest and then wrapped up the Region 2 championship with a 5-1 victory over Antigo later in the day.
They were the only Rhinelander team to move on from playdowns. The Squirt A team beat Tomahawk 7-2 but lost to Lakeland 4-2 in Merrill Feb. 1 for the right to move on to state. The Squirt B team lost 5-2 to Marshfield in Rhinelander on Sunday with a state berth on the line. The Hodags have the No. 1 seed for the WAHA Peewee 3A state tournament, which will take place March 8-9 in Waupun.
