Newbold board to hold public hearing on TRH ordinance
The Newbold town board has scheduled a public hearing to gather input and as a next step in adopting an ordinance regulating tourist rooming houses.
The board discussed the matter during its Jan. 30 meeting.
Town chairman Dan Hess has said throughout the process the ordinance is similar to tourist rooming house ordinances other Oneida County towns have already adopted.
Town officials have said the purpose of the ordinance is for the town to keep tabs on the tourist rooming houses in the community, which are properties typically rented to vacationers for weekend or extended trips and commonly advertised on websites such as VRBO and AirBnb.
If adopted, the ordinance would require renters to acquire a license or permit by the town for an initial fee and a renewal fee each year after.
Fees are proposed in the ordinance to be $500 for both the initial fee and the renewal fee.
The public hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. March 27.
