RHS Sports recap: Saturday, Feb. 1
Gymnastics: Rhinelander 6th/9, Antigo Invite
The Rhinelander High School gymnastics team came home sixth in the nine-team Julie Langseth Memorial in Antigo on Saturday. Rhinelander posted a team score of 116.05 in its first meet since Jan. 4.
Freshman Emeline Hintz broke into the 30s in the individual all-around for the second time this year, taking 20th overall with a score of 30.35. She was Rhinelander’s top performer on balance beam (21st, 7.45). She also led the Hodags on uneven bars (22nd, 6.9) and took 15th on the vault (8.3).
Sophomores Samantha Aschenbrenner and Alexis Smith also competed in the all-around for Rhinelander. Aschenbrenner was 25th (28.75) while Smith with 27th (27.85). Smith scored the Hodags’ best event finish, placing 10th on the vault (8.5) and added a 15th-place showing on floor exercise (8.1).
The Hodags were the highest-finishing GNC Small school in the field, beating Ashland, Mosinee and Antigo.
Rhinelander (0-1 GNC Small) is back in action Tuesday night at home against Antigo.
Wrestling: RHS girls 26/30, Marshfield Invite
The Hodag girls traveled to Marshfield Saturday for the Queen of the Mat Invite, which featured 30 teams.
Sophomore Cassidy Lindner made the podium for the Hodags, taking fourth in the 120-pound weight class. Miranda Daab was the only other Hodag to make the trip to Marshfield. She went 0-2 on the day at 235 pounds, getting pinned in both of here matches.
The Hodag girls have picked up one more match before the WIAA tournament and will wrestle in Merrill this coming Friday.
