Lake Tomahawk town board formally adopts 2026 budget
The Lake Tomahawk town board formally adopted its budget for the upcoming year.
Town chairman George DeMet said there wasn’t much change to the budget, which has a property tax levy of $811,914 included, a 1.73 percent increase from the 2025 budget.
The town, he said, has never exceeded the allowable tax levy increase set by the state
Overall, the budget amounts to $1,412,817, a 4.89 percent increase from the 2025 budget.
“It’s pretty much the same,” DeMet said of the budget. “We did set aside, I think, $75,000 that — we don’t even know what it’s going to cost yet — to put in a new heating and cooling system in the community building. That was about the only thing out of the ordinary.”
He said he thinks there’s about $300,000 allocated for roads in the 2026 budget.
The big project for this upcoming year, DeMet said, is Two Lakes Road.
“And that one, we applied for a … Local Road Improvement Program (grant) through the state,” he said. “So we’re going to be getting, I think, $28,000 towards that. That’s a program that comes out every two years. They divide money up between towns and counties. Other than that, that’s the only big reconstruction project. The rest will be all maintenance — maybe crack sealing, chip sealing a bunch of different roads. We haven’t decided on that yet.”
Other matters
The board at its Dec. 10 meeting also:
• Approved the town’s list of poll workers for 2026 and 2027.
• Approved the name Eaglewatch Trail for a private road off of South Bluebird Road.
