RHS Sports recap: Thursday, Dec. 11
Boys’ swim: Rhinelander 136, Medford 19
The Rhinelander High School boys’ swim went 1-2 in all 11 events Thursday as it defeated Medford 136-19 in Great Northern Conference dual meet play in Medford.
Eleven different Hodags played a role in at least one victory. Individually, Dean Gillingham took the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke for the Hodags. Matthew Wood won the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly for Rhinelander, Judson O’Malley won the 50 freestyle and the 500 freestyle, Charlie Antonuk took the 200 individual medley and Daniel Meier claimed the 100 freestyle.
Rhinelander (2-0 Great Northern) back in action Saturday as it hosts the Hodag Relays at the Heck Family Community Pool.
Boys’ wrestling: Merrill 69, Rhinelander 12
The Rhinelander High School wrestling team won only one contested bout Thursday as it fell to Merrill 69-12 in a GNC dual meet at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
Avrom Barr led off the match with a pin for Rhinelander at 144 pounds. The Hodags’ only other win was a forfeit victory for freshman Juan Diego Grage at 106.
Rhinelander (0-1 Great Northern) travels to Crandon for an invite on Saturday.
Boys’ hockey: Chequamegon/Phillips 7, Rhinelander 6
A comeback effort for the Rhinelander High School boys’ hockey team on Thursday night fell short as the Hodags fell to Chequamegon/Phillips 7-6 in Park Falls.
The game was tied 2-2 after a period but the SEaLs took a 4-2 lead after two period.
Further details were not available as of the time of this post.
Rhinelander (0-6-0, 0-3-0-0 Great Northern) travels to Antigo on Tuesday.
