Boys’ basketball: Rhinelander 62, Antigo 42
The Rhinelander High School boys’ basketball team used a 15-0 run in the second half to pull away from Antigo and defeat the Red Robins 62-42 Friday night in GNC play at Sheldon Fieldhouse.
The Hodags led 26-25 at the break and finally created some separation as it held Antigo without a field goal from a seven-plus minute stretch in the second, pushing the lead to 46-30 with 8:18 remaining. The Robins never got closer than 10 the rest of the way.
Abe Gretzinger paced the Hodags with 20 points. Devon Feck and Evan Shoeder scored 13 each and Shoeder added 13 rebounds. Rhinelander on despite shooting just 1 of 15 from 3-point range and 21 of 58 (36%) overall.
Egan Trebant McKenna paced the Robins with 12 points in the game.
Rhinelander (4-1, 2-0 Great Northern) hosts Wausau West on Tuesday.
Girls’ basketball: Rhinelander 68, Antigo 29
The Rhinelander High School girls’ basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak Friday night, pulling away from Antigo for a 68-29 victory at Sheldon Fieldhouse.
Rhinelander led 28-14 at the half and put the throttle down late, outscoring the Red Robins 26-4 over the final 10 minutes of the contest.
Aubryn Clark led the Hodags with 23 points, Teagan Clark added 15 and Lexi Beran had 11 points and 11 rebounds as Rhinelander shot 41% (25 of 61) on the night.
Ava West and Baily Heinzen had eight points each for the Robins, who shot 26% (8 of 31) from the field and committed 40 turnovers.
Rhinelander (3-3, 1-2 Great Northern) travels to Stevens Point on Tuesday.
