Boys’ basketball: Wittenberg-Birnamwood 49, Rhinelander 33
A cold-shooting Rhinelander High School boys’ basketball team fell on the road at Wittenberg-Birnamwood 49-33 Tuesday night.
The Hodags, who trailed 23-22 at half, shot just 4 of 30 from 3-point range in the game and the Chargers pulled away over the final 18 minutes.
Devon Feck led Rhinelander with 12 points while Abe Gretzinger had eight. Zander Bakke scored 31 to lead the Chargers.

Boys’ hockey: Waupaca 7, Rhinelander 3
The Rhinelander High School boys’ hockey team made things interesting, but fell to Waupaca 7-3 Tuesday at the Rhinelander Ice Arena.
Trailing 4-0 in the second period, the Hodags scored three power play goals to get within one early in the third. Rhinelander thought it had the game tied 2:23 into the third, but Drake Nelson was deemed to have kicked the puck into the net and his goal was disallowed.
Emmerich Trzebiatowski scored roughly a minute later, one of his two third-period goals that helped the Comets restore a four-goal margin.
Carson Plehn, Braydon Lorman and Kadin Rodziczak scored Rhinelander’s goals. Trzebiatowski, Colin Lockwood and Noah Fleming each scored twice for the Comets while Thomas Thiel added a goal.
Waupaca outshot Rhinelander 37-28 in the contest. Connor McGee made 30 saves in the loss for Rhinelander.
The Hodags (0-5-0, 0-3-0-0 Great Northern) travel to Park Falls Thursday to face Chequamegon/Phillips.
Boys’ swimming: Rhinelander at Stevens Point, ppd.
The Rhinelander High School boys’ swim team had a double dual against Stevens Point and Wausau East in Stevens Point postponed Tuesday due to inclement weather. Both Stevens Point and Wausau canceled after school activities due to a winter storm warning in their respective counties.
A make-up date for the meet has not been announced.
Rhinelander (1-0 Great Northern) travels to Medford on Thursday to resume GNC dual meet play.
