Pelican town board OKs feasibility bid
The Pelican town board has taken a next step in making a reconstruction of the Faust Lake Road and Old Highway 8 intersection a reality.
During it’s Dec. 1 meeting, the town board approved a bid of $8,500 from MSA Professional Services to conduct a feasibility study for the project.
“Coming off of Faust Lake Road you have one land that goes to the right and one lane that kind of shoots off and goes to the left so there’s two directions you can actually head with a triangle piece in the center,” town chairman Nick Scholtes said. “What we’re looking at doing is getting that intersection reconstructed into a traditional ‘T’ intersection.”
He said the town board had earlier this year issued a request for proposal (RFP) to conduct the feasibility study and received responses from three firms, the Rhinelander office of MSA Professional Services one of them.
Scholtes said MSA’s scope of work includes a preliminary design as well as a completed design for the intersection.
“We’re looking at between now and next summer to get the preliminary design and 60 percent completion of the completed design,” he said, adding the completed plans could be finalized and ready for town board consideration by mid-summer 2026.
As for when scheduling the project itself happens, Scholtes said he doesn’t see that happening in 2026.
“Unless it would come in with some real good numbers,” he said.
