Boys’ hockey: Oshkosh 5, Rhinelander 1
The Rhinelander High School boys’ hockey team dropped a non-conference game at Oshkosh 5-1 on Saturday.
The Hodags trailed 2-0 after a period and 3-1 after two periods. The Ice Hawks scored twice more in the third period, including an empty-net goal with 1:48 remaining.
Asher Rivord scored Rhinelander’s lone goal late the second period, poking in a rebound off a shot from Dylan Shefveland. Both teams finished with 27 shots in the game. Connor McGee stopped 22 pucks for Rhinelander in defeat.
Rhinelander (0-4-0, 0-2-0-0 Great Northern) hosts Waupaca on Tuesday.
Wrestling: Rhinelander 15th/18, John Roberts Invite
The Rhinelander High School wrestling team had a handful of wrestlers make the championship bracket Saturday as they took 15th in the 18-team John Roberts Invite in Antigo.
Ivan Loka (132 pounds), Anthony Boldt (157) and Shayden Hylleberg (285) all took seventh in their respective weight classes while Hoyt Dantoin was eighth at 138. Avrom Barr won three straight matches in the consolation bracket to finish ninth at 144.
The Hodags will be back in action Thursday as they host Merrill in a GNC dual meet.
