RHS Sports recap: Monday, Aug. 25
Girls’ tennis: Rhinelander 2-1, Wausau West Invite
The Rhinelander High School girls’ tennis team went 2-1 Monday in the first day of the Wausau West Invite. The Hodags defeated Green Bay Preble 4-3, Wausau East 6-1 and fell to Stevens Point 6-1.
Becca Brost, playing at No. 4 singles, picked up the team’s lone win against Stevens Point and was one of three singles winners against Wausau East, joining Jordan Manske (No. 2) and Taylor McKinney (No. 3). The doubles squads of Teagan Turcotte/Maddie Legrey, Willow VanDenHeuvel/Eva Heck and Willow Mutter/Addy Currie swept doubles play against East.
Manske, Lucy Evers and Sam Aschenbrenner scored wins in singles against Green Bay Preble with Mutter and Currie scoring a win in doubles.
The Hodags are back in Wausau Tuesday to conclude the two-day meet.
Girls’ golf: Rhinelander 7th/7, Wis. Rapids Invite
The Rhinelander High School girls’ golf team played its first ever match Tuesday, shooting 527 to take seventh in the seven-team Wisconsin Rapids Invite at Bull’s Eye C.C.
Senior Nevaeh Anderson shot 114 and tied for 20th in the 40-player field to lead the Hodags. Claire Yunkers shot 129, Ella Miljevich shot 133, Hayley Schiek shot 154, Karlie Yunkers shot 157 and Lindsey Hoerchler shot 164.
The Hodags are back in action tomorrow, taking on Amherst in a dual meet at SentryWorld in Stevens Point.
