RHS Sports recap: Thursday, Aug. 21
Girls’ tennis: Rhinelander 7, Antigo 0
The Rhinelander High School girls’ tennis team opened Great Northern Conference play Thursday with a 7-0 sweep on the road at Antigo. Rhinelander won all seven matches in straight sets.
In singles Annie Vander Galien, Jordan Manske, Taylor McKinney and Lucy Evers picked up victories. The Hodags dropped one game combined in doubles with Maddie Legrey/Teagan Turcotte, Becca Brost/Willow VanDenHeuvel and Willow Mutter/Addy Currie picking up the wins.
Rhinelander (2-3, 1-0 Great Northern) travels to Wausau Monday and Tuesday for a two-day invite.
Girls’ swimming: Rhinelander 1st/13, Merrill Relays
Rhinelander won five of the nine events on Thursday and took first place in the 13-team Merrill Fun in the Sun Outdoor Relays.
Ten different Hodags found the winner’s circle on Thursday, led by Emma Houg, Ella Heck and Vivian Lamers, who were each three-event winners on the day. June Chimulera, Rylee Mickevicius, Millie Gruett and freshman Lola Beach were each two-event winners while Aubree Edwardson, Kiley Pooch and Kyree McMahon were also part of event wins.
The Hodags took the 400 individual medley, 200 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 200 backstroke and 200 breaststroke relays during the event and added a trio of runner-up finishes.
Rhinelander is back in action Saturday at the Menomonie Invite.
