Carter J. “Dart” Detienne was born on October 25, 2003 at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander to Steven C. and Julie A. (Colstad) Detienne. He passed away on August 5, 2025 in Rhinelander.

Carter grew up in Rhinelander, attending school at Crescent, Central, JWMS and graduating from Rhinelander High School with the Class of 2022. Carter, known by “Dart” by all his friends, loved his family, playing hockey, fishing, both open water and ice, driving his ATV, anything with mud, his snowmobiles, and his trucks, “Bluey and Red.” He enjoyed fixing up his sleds and took pride and joy in working on his racing sled. He loved spending time outside, no matter the weather. He enjoyed country music and the Minnesota Vikings. He was known for helping his friends whenever they needed it and would always stand up for them. He had a great fondness of loud toys and was always on the move doing stuff. He had a great passion for collecting things, as if they were trophies. He never parted with anything, as he might need it someday. He truly put the most effort into the things he truly enjoyed. He loved his hats, cowboy boots, and his high visibility jackets.

He made friends no matter where he went. He was loved by so many. His bright smile and one of a kind contagious laugh would brighten any room or mood. He is deeply missed by all that loved him.

Carter is survived by his parents, Steven C. and Julie A. (Colstad) Detienne, his sisters Anna Detienne (Anthony Gray), and Emalee Detienne, all of Rhinelander. His uncles Michael (Veronica) Detienne of Rhinelander and Christian (Colleen) Colstad of Randolph. Two nieces and one nephew. His paternal grandfather John C. Detienne of Rhinelander. His maternal grandfather Jerald G. Colstad of Poynette. His honorary maternal grandmother Viola Hosking of Prairie du Sac. Many cousins and other family. Best friends Noah McCann and Alex Desch. Plus, many other great friends that treated him like family.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Sandra J. Detienne, his friend Dominic J. Belongia and his dog Smokey.

Carter is deeply missed by all that loved him and knew him. Thank you to everyone that has offered condolences and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to his parents.

A celebration of life for Carter will be held on Aug. 22 at the First United Methodist Church in Rhinelander. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1. p.m. with the celebration of life to follow at 1 p.m. Reverend Mike Zahn will officiate. Please dress casually, as Carter would not want anyone to dress up.
