Glenna Jean Luetgers, 91, died on July 29, 2025, at Amira Choice Senior Living. Born on August 26, 1933, in Graceville, Minn., at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Glenna was the daughter of Fred William Peickert and Lorena Margaret Pieckert (Hauschild).
Glenna grew up in Dumont, Minn. with her siblings Marlin “Pike” Peickert, Donna Mae Schwartz (Peickert), and Arla Fridgen (Peickert). She graduated as salutatorian of Wheaton High School’s class of 1951. Glenna received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis and St. Paul. She met her future husband, Eugene “Gene,” on the St. Paul campus, and they were married at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park on June 20, 1959. They were blessed with 66 years of marriage before Glenna’s passing.
After their wedding, Glenna and Gene moved to Salem, Ore., where their first child was born. Less than two years later, they returned to Minnesota residing in small towns in northern Minnesota. In 1968, they moved to Rhinelander, where they lived for 50 years before their final return to Minnesota.
Glenna taught home economics at James Williams Middle School during the 1970s and 80s. She was an accomplished cook who prepared delicious homemade meals often using many fresh ingredients from the family garden. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading, golfing, traveling and embroidery. In their retirement, Glenna and Gene enjoyed traveling overseas to many countries in Europe and Asia. A lifelong servant of Christ, she was a member of Rhinelander’s St. Mark Lutheran Church for 50 years, and she was most recently a member of Glory of Christ Lutheran Church in Plymouth. She regularly donated funds to the Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch over most of her adult life.
Glenna was preceded in death by her brother Marlin and her sisters Arla and Donna.
Glenna is survived by her husband Gene Luetgers; her daughter Jana (Warren) Hawkins of Plymouth, Minn.; her sons Scott (Maritoni) Luetgers of Roswell, GA and Jon (Lynn) Luetgers of Victoria, Minn.; her grandchildren Scott Michael (Kate), Lindsay (John Michael), Jake (Erin) Sam (Jill), Lauren (Troy) and Melissa; and her great-grandchildren Emma, Liam, Rory and Theodore; her nieces, nephews and other family members; and her many friends.
A memorial service for Glenna J. Luetgers will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at Glory of Christ Lutheran Church, 4040 MN-101, Plymouth, MN 55446. A memorial gathering will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a funeral service starting at 11 a.m. An after-service luncheon will be provided. Glenna will be interred in the columbarium at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, near the graves of her husband Gene’s parents, Theodore and Adeline Luetgers.
