Glenn R. Johnson, 79 of Rhinelander, died Tuesday August 5, 2025, at the home he built on Tom Doyle Lake surrounded by family.

He was born May 14, 1946 in Prentice to Ivar and Lillian (Gustafson) Johnson. After graduating from Rhinelander High School, he worked at the Wisconsin DMV for 37 years in various roles, retiring as a district manager. He married Priscilla Johnson on March 13, 1965. They raised their family in Stevens Point and lived in Appleton before moving back to Rhinelander.

Glenn was very active in leadership roles both at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Plover and Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rhinelander. Glenn also served the communities he lived in as a county board supervisor, youth baseball and softball coach, PALS volunteer, foster parent, foreign exchange student host, and meals on wheels volunteer. Glenn was generous, loving and giving to everyone around him, always seeking opportunities to help others.

Glenn dedicated his life to taking care of his family, especially his beloved wife Perce. He loved his family and never missed a game, recital, or activity for his kids, grandkids, other family members, and friends. He also enjoyed rooting for the Packers, Badgers, and Brewers, hunting, fishing, building/remodeling, woodworking, and giving boat rides. Most of all he loved to make jokes, give people a hard time, and ensure everyone around him was smiling.

Glenn is survived by his wife Priscilla; his son Jonathan (Chris) of Appleton; his two daughters Lisa (Ken) Baker of Lake Villa, Ill. and Kersten (Bill) McChesney of Grand Marsh; seven grandchildren Lauren (Andrew) Beveroth, Jordan (Jacob) Maegli, Michelle (Justin) Alllard, Andrew (Samantha) Johnson, Brad (Jordyn Previn) Baker, Mark (Marissa) McChesney, and Katie Johnson; a great-granddaughter, Bailey Beveroth and expected great-grandson McChesney; two sisters Mary (Butch) Gregory and Kathy (Steve) Zastrow; sister-in-law Sue Johnson and brother-in-law Mike Harvey and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Daniel Johnson, and his sister Patricia Harvey.

Visitation for Glenn will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to noon, with funeral services following at noon, all at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. Reverend John Kuziej will be officiating. A memorial is being established in Glenn’s name and any gifts may be directed to his family.
