Childbirth is one of life’s most meaningful moments, and for many families, it goes smoothly. But occasionally, unexpected complications can occur — one of the most serious being postpartum hemorrhage, or heavy bleeding after delivery.
To better protect mothers in these critical moments, Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital has implemented new practices and technology that allow its obstetrics team to respond faster, more effectively, and with fewer interventions. One of these new tools is the Jada® System, a device that helps control postpartum bleeding quickly and naturally.
“Delivering a baby is a powerful experience, and we want every mom to feel safe, supported, and cared for — even if the unexpected happens,” said Susan Acuna, MD, Obstetrics & Gynecology at Aspirus Rhinelander Clinic – N Shore Drive. “Our team is trained and equipped to act quickly if there’s an emergency, and the Jada System gives us one more way to protect our patients.”
The Jada System works by applying gentle suction inside the uterus, helping it contract and stop bleeding — a process that mimics what the body does naturally. This approach allows the care team to gain control of bleeding within minutes, often avoiding the need for more invasive procedures or transfers to larger hospitals.
“We’re committed to offering the best possible care,” Dr. Acuna said. “Having the Jada System available is part of that commitment — it helps us provide safer care, closer to home.”
Postpartum hemorrhage is a leading cause of preventable maternal complications after delivery. The addition of the Jada System is just one part of Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital’s broader effort to improve outcomes and ensure that every mother receives the highest standard of care.
“Being ready for the unexpected is what allows us to give families peace of mind,” said Dr. Acuna. “We’re proud to offer the kind of advanced care that keeps moms safe and healthy — right here in the Northwoods.”
