Joyce Ann Counter, 92, of Rhinelander, died on April 23, 2025, at the Friendly Village Nursing Home. She was born on December 31, 1932, in Rhinelander, the daughter of Floyd and Selma (Seidel) Baribeau. She was a lifelong resident of Rhinelander. She graduated from the Rhinelander High School in 1950.

Joyce married Ronald Counter on September 1, 1956, and he preceded her in death on February 15, 2000. They were blessed with nearly 44 years of marriage.

Joyce managed the lunch counter at F.W. Woolworth for 12 years and then went to work as a cook and dietary specialist for the St. Mary’s Hospital for 17 years, retiring in 1985. She was a longtime member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and bowling.

Joyce is survived by her daughter Deborah (Charles) Polinski, her sons Ronald Counter, Jeffery Counter and Scott (Helen) Counter, her nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, her sister Mary Blomdahl, nieces, nephews and many friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her infant daughter Sue, her brother Floyd Baribeau and her brother-in-law Charles Blomdahl.

Visitation for Joyce will be held on Friday, May 2, from 10 to 11 a.m. with funeral services following at 11 a.m., all at the Carlson Funeral Home. Reverend’s Timothy and Kari Vadis will be officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. You may leave your private condolences for the Counter family at www.carlsonfh.com.
