WIAA Realignment Task Force advances changes to remanded plans
The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Conference Realignment Task Force virtually reconvened Tuesday, April 15 to finalize plans that were remanded by the Board of Control at its March 11 meeting for further consideration.
The current realignment process addresses football-only and lacrosse conferences. The schools and leagues associated with those remanded were re-evaluated by the task force, resulting in football-only recommendations that include 49 programs assigned to seven conferences.
The two 11-player football plans that were remanded back to the task force involved the Northeastern and Eastern Wisconsin Conferences, as well as the Classic Eight Conference, Greater Metro Conference, North Shore Conference, Parkland Conference and the Woodland Conference.
The remanded plan for the Northeastern and the Eastern Wisconsin Conferences resulted in the recommendation to place Kohler/Sheboygan Christian/Sheboygan Lutheran in the Northeastern Conference with Denmark, Freedom, Little Chute, Luxemburg-Casco, Sheboygan Falls and Wrightstown, which includes a mandatory crossover game with the Bay Conference. The plan places Two Rivers in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference with Brillion, Chilton, Kiel, New Holstein, Manitowoc Roncalli, St. Mary Catholic and Valders.
The 11-player remanded realignment plan in the southeast area of the state resulted in the task force placing Menomonee Falls, Waukesha West and Wisconsin Lutheran with Cedarburg, Hartford, Homestead, Slinger and Whitefish Bay in the North Shore Conference.
Waukesha Catholic Memorial is recommended to be aligned with Brookfield Central, Brookfield East, Germantown, Hamilton and Marquette in the Great Metro Conference, which will require a crossover conference game with the Classic Eight Conference, consisting of Arrowhead, Franklin, Kettle Moraine, Mukwonago, Muskego and Oconomowoc.
The task force also recommends the Parkland Conference, including New Berlin Eisenhower, New Berlin West, Pewaukee, Waukesha North, Waukesha South, Wauwatosa East and Wauwatosa West be paired for a mandatory crossover game with the Woodland Conference, which includes Greendale, Greenfield, Milwaukee Lutheran, South Milwaukee, West Allis Central, West Allis Hale and Whitnall.
In addition, 20 boys’ lacrosse programs and 18 girls’ lacrosse programs were assigned to three conferences, respectively.
Conference configurations for the remanded realignment plans, as well as all the original realignment proposals submitted, are available on the Conference Realignment Requests and Proposals page of the WIAA Website at https://www.wiaawi.org/Schools/Conferences/Conference-Realignment/Requests-and-Proposals.
The task force’s recommendations are advanced to the Board of Control for final consideration at its meeting Wednesday, April 23. The Board will have the options to approve or reject the realignment recommendations. If approved, the modifications will be implemented for lacrosse in the spring of 2026 and for football in the fall of 2026.
