RHS Sports recap: Tuesday, April 15
Baseball: Rhinelander 11, Adams-Friendship 6
Jackson Waydick scattered two hits over six innings and the Rhinelander High School offense pounded out 15 hits on Tuesday as the Hodags defeated Adams-Friendship 11-6 in a non-conference road baseball contest.
Leading 5-2, and after working out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam unscathed in the bottom of the fifth, the Hodag offense went to work. Rhinelander pounded out six straight base hits in a six-run sixth that blew the game open. The Green Devils tried to make things interesting in a four-run seventh, but reliever Mason Schmidt struck out the last two batters to close out the game.
The Hodags scored once in the first and led wire-to-wire, adding two runs each in the fourth and fifth prior to their big sixth inning. Adams-Friendship took advantage of a couple of Rhinelander errors to score twice in the fourth.
Waydick allowed two runs, both unearned, and struck out seven to earn his first varsity win. He was also one of six Hodags to collect two hits at the plate — joining Dylan Vanderbunt, Seth Nofftz, Rowan Wiczek, Conner Rappley and Sawyer Bishop. Wiczek drove in three runs while Rappley, Tyler Chariton and Abe Gretzinger each drove in two.
Rhinelander (3-2, 1-0 Great Northern) travels to Crandon on Thursday.

Michael Schiek/Payton McCue, Hart Hokens/Van Tulowitzky and Danek Koniar/Braydon Lorman swept the doubles for Rhinelander.
