Newbold town board OKs disc golf tournament for Warm Kids Wisconsin

The Newbold town board at its April 10 meeting agreed to allow a disc golf tournament at Rookery Run Golf Course on June 28.

Lea Kolbeck said Warm Kids Wisconsin, a 501(c)(3) she’s part of, provides new snow pants and boots for elementary students in need throughout the state.

She said this would be the “first-ever fundraising tournament” for the organization.

Parents and kids, Kolbeck said, would be welcome to participate. Full capacity, she said, would consist of 25 teams of two, half being kids, as well as volunteers, totaling roughly 80 people.

“We’ll be having light snacks, no hot food, and we’ll have a raffle, surprises,” she said. “Everything is donated and all the funds go right to the charity.”

Town chairman Dan Hess asked the other four board members if there were any questions.

Town supervisor Scott Ridderbusch asked if there were any plans to serve alcohol, but Kolbeck said just water and juice boxes would be provided.

Hess told Kolbeck the course wouldn’t be shut down to the public, but there haven’t been any issues with that for past tournaments.

He said the town has to leave the course open and Kolbeck indicated she was fine with that.

Town clerk Kim Gauthier asked when another tournament at Rookery Run was scheduled for. Hess and Kolbeck said it was sometime in August.

Gauthier added she thought the Warm Kids Wisconsin event could be a good event to add to the town’s calendar.

Hess told Kolbeck he thinks parking should be enough for around 25 vehicles, but if more parking is needed, she can make the town aware and additional parking on the side of the road can be arranged.
