RHS Sports recap: Friday, April 11
Boys’ track: T4th/13, Wausau West Indoor
The Rhinelander High School boys’ track team won three events Friday as it tied for fourth in the 13-team Warrior Boys Indoor Invite at Wausau West.
Truman Lamers was victorious in the triple jump, leaping 40 feet, 10 1/2 inches. Ben Olson claimed the 400 meters (1:00.27) and the Hodags claimed the 4x727.5-meter relay with Shawn Denis, Avrom Barr, Jackson Weinzatl and Greyson Gremban (8:26.40).
Rhinelander is back in action on Tuesday, hosting the Hodag Hybrid Meet at Mike Webster Stadium.
Softball: Byron, Minn. 16, Rhinelander 2; Escanaba, Mich. 19, Rhinelander 3
The Rhinelander High School softball team lost both of its games in Mauston on Friday, falling to Bryon, Minn. 16-2 and Escanaba, Mich. 19-3.
Rhinelander scored both of its runs against Bryon in the top of the third on a two-run single by Aleece Johnson, one of just four hits for the Hodags in the game. The others came from Saige Mutter, Nevaeh Anderson and Cassidy Lindner. Johnson took the loss, allowing eight earned runs on five hits with six walks and three strikeouts over 2 1/3 innings.
All of Rhinelander’s offense game in the fifth inning against the Eskymos. Kayln Miller tripled a run and then scored on a passed ball while Sadie Edyvean added an RBI double. Kendall Vanney went two innings in the loss for Rhinelander, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Rhinelander (1-2, 0-0 Great Northern) takes on Edgar in Mauston on Saturday.
