Girls’ soccer: Rhinelander 2, Stevens Point 1

Vivian Lamers’s goal in the 55th minute proved to be the difference Thursday night a the Rhinelander High School girls’ soccer team defeated Stevens Point 2-1 at Mike Webster Stadium.

Lamers scored off a loose ball in the box from Sophie Miljevich to give the Hodags a 2-0 lead. Ella Miljevich scored in the 16th minute for Rhinelander off an assist from Lindsey Hoerchler. 

Stevens Point got within a goal as Elaine Czaikowski scored in a scramble off a corner kick in the 71st minute but the Panthers could not find the equalizer. 

Rhinelander outshot Stevens Point 27-17 in the match and had a 9-6 edge in shots on goal. Rylee Mickevicius played all 80 minutes and made five saves in the win.

The Hodags (2-2-0, 0-0-0-0 Great Northern) travel to Lake Mills for an invite on Saturday.

Girls’ track: Rhinelander 3rd/13, Wausau West Indoor

The RHS girls’ pole vault record fell once again on Thursday as the Rhinelander High School track team took third in the 13-team Wausau West Indoor girls’ track meet. 

Sophomore Macy Myers cleared 9 feet, 10 inches in the win, breaking the previous school mark of 9-6 she set March 25 in Ashland. Myers added a runner-up finish for the Hodags in the 800-meter run. 

Aila Bergman took the win in the 55 hurdles, Emeline Hintz was second in the pole vault and Violet Biolo was second in the 55-meter dash. Lexi Bishop took third in that event and was also third in the 400.

The Hodag boys will compete in Wausau on Friday and the Hodag girls will return to action on Tuesday in the Hodag Hybrid Meet at Mike Webster Stadium.
