RHS Sports recap: Saturday, Sept. 28

Volleyball: Rhinelander 4th/8, Phillips Invite

The Rhinelander High School volleyball team went 2-3 on Saturday and took fourth place in the eight-team Phillips Invite. 

Rhinelander finished second in its pool after beating Chequamegon on straight sets (25-21, 27-25), dropping a tight match to Phillips (27-25, 26-24) and beating Bruce (25-17, 25-16). The Hodags lost to Prentice in three sets in the semifinals (25-11, 19-25, 15-12) and then to Florence in the third-place match (25-18, 25-18).

Macey Schmoeger paced Rhinelander with 20 kills on the day. Libbey Buchmann played in three of the five matches, recording 16 kills. Lucy Lindner had 51 assists and 28 digs, Tori Stella had a team-high 51 digs and Cassidy Lindner recorded 16 service aces. 

Rhinelander (10-21, 1-5 Great Northern) travels to Northland Pines on Tuesday.
