RHS Sports recap: Thursday, Sept. 26
Girls’ swimming: Rhinelander 119, Lakeland 50
The RHS girls’ swim team won eight of 11 events Thursday as it rolled to a 119-50 win over Lakeland on the road in Minocqua.
Sophomore Vivian Lamers won all four of her events on Thursday, taking the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 freestyle while also swimming on the Hodags’ winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams.
Lily Thorsen won the 100 butterfly, Ella Heck took the 50 freestyle and Celia Francis won the 100 backstroke. The Hodags won all three relay races.
Rhinelander (4-0 Great Northern) travels to Tomahawk next Thursday.
Girls’ tennis: Rhinelander 5th/8, GNC Meet
The Rhinelander High School girls’ tennis team finished fifth on the day and fifth overall in the Great Northern Conference as the conference tournament was conducted at Thursday in Minocqua.
The Hodags scored 10 points on the day and finished seven points behind Medford for fourth in the conference — the first time the team has finished outside of the top half of the GNC. The Hodags also failed to have an all-conference honoree for the first time as a member of the GNC after taking five fourth-place finishes on the day.
Rhinelander was fourth with Kelsey Winter (1 singles), Karmen Lopez (2 singles), Sam Aschenbrenner (4 singles), Dawsyn Barkus/Brooke Sisel (1 doubles) and Eva Heck/Willow VanDenHeuvel (3 doubles).
The Hodags travel to Wisconsin Rapids Tuesday for their final dual of the regular season.
Cross Country: RHS boys 2nd/6, RHS girls 2nd/5, Three Lakes Invite
Both the RHS boys’ and girls’ cross country team scored runner-up finishes to GNC foes Thursday in the Three Lakes Invite.
The Hodag boys finished just four points behind Lakeland for first place. Greyson Gremban covered the 5K course in 17 minutes, 18.8 seconds to finish third on the day and pace the Hodag boys. Avrom Barr took fourth, followed by Brody Kowieski in 11th, Jackson Weinzatl in 12th and Michael Brunette in 23rd.
On the girls’ side, Brynn Teter was sixth overall (22:18.1) while Macy Myers came home ninth. Sophie Miljevich was 12th, Kara Monk was 13th and Hayley Schiek was 18th as the Hodags fell to Tomahawk 36-53.
Rhinelander is back in action next Thursday at the Medford Invite.
