RHS Sports recap: Monday, Sept. 23
Boys’ soccer: Waupaca 5, Rhinelander 1
The Rhinelander High School boys’ soccer team faded in the second half Monday, allowing four goals as part of a 5-1 loss to the Waupaca Comets in non-conference play at Mike Webster Stadium.
The Hodags kept Waupaca off the board until the 32nd minute and trailed 1-0 at halftime, but the Comets scored twice in the first eight minutes of the second half and never looked back.
Hart Hokens scored on a breakaway off an assist from Charlie Johnson for the Hodags in the 66th minute. Waupaca outshot Rhinelander 24-9. Barak Rappley, back in goal for the Hodags, stopped six shots in defeat.
Rhinelander (3-6-1, 2-2-0-1) is idle until Oct. 5 when it travels to Antigo.
Girls’ tennis: Medford 5, Rhinelander 2
The Rhinelander High School girls’ tennis team fell to fifth in the Great Northern Conference standings on Monday with a 5-2 loss to Medford at the RHS tennis courts.
Rhinelander’s lone wins came from Karmen Lopez at No. 2 doubles and by Dawsyn Barkus and Brooke Sisel at No. 1 doubles.
Rhinelander (3-4 Great Northern) will take part in the GNC tournament Thursday in Minocqua.
