John Eric “Lar” Larson, 62, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024, at his home in Rhinelander.
John was born on January 31, 1962, in Rhinelander, to Clyde (Swede) and Doris Larson. He attended Rhinelander public schools and was a 1980 graduate of Rhinelander High School. He attended the University of Wisconsin La Crosse and graduated in 1984 with a degree in business/finance.
Following graduation, he was employed by American Finance where he worked in several cities throughout the Midwest. After several years his heart and love for the Northwoods drew him back to the area. He began working in multiple capacities for the Frito Lay Company and was employed with them for 25+ years until his retirement in 2017.
He enjoyed hunting and spending time in the woods at the “shack”, where countless memories were made with his family and friends. He welcomed all and the chaos they brought, but he truly enjoyed the quieter times he shared with his cousin Todd (T.J.), sharing stories and reminiscing about days gone by. He was an avid Hodags, Packers, and Brewers fan, rarely missing an opportunity to either listen or watch the games. He especially looked forward to football season and his ongoing weekly wagers with his niece, Emily. A tradition that spanned for 10 years.
He is survived by his sisters, Carol (Tom) Persick, Karen (Dave) Mumm, nieces Allie and Em Persick, Abbie Mumm, and nephew Andrew Mumm, as well as his aunts, uncles, and cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at noon at the Carlson Funeral Home in Rhinelander. A visitation will take place prior to the service from 10 a.m. to noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations may be made to Friends of RHS class of 1980 Scholarships. You may leave your private condolences for the Larson family at www.carlsonfh.com.
