Joy Elinore Braeger passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2024. She was born in Rhinelander on February 18, 1934, to John and Florence Lewis.
Joy attended Three Lakes High School, graduating in 1952. One of the highlights of her life came with her employment in Washington working for the Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon where she encountered numerous important people, including the POTUS.
After moving back to the Rhinelander area and working various jobs, Joy settled into a career at Peterson Health Care in the accounting department where she worked many years until her retirement.
Joy was a lifelong member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and her faith was a huge part of her life as anyone who met her would find out. Blessed with the talent of both playing the piano and singing, Joy shared her love of Christ through music and song.
Joy married Norman Braeger on June 3, 1959, and together they went on various adventures that involved anything to do with trains.
Joy will be remembered for her always present smile, generosity and her ability to bring a little ray of sunshine to share wherever she went. Though she will be greatly missed, we rejoice in the knowledge of absent from the body present with the Lord.
Joy is survived by her daughter Terri (Paul) Baehr, four granddaughters Jennifer (Greg) Bohn, and Hannah, Kate, and Grace Baehr, and two great-grandchildren Owen and Aubrey Bohn. She was preceded in death by her husband Norman Braeger, son David Braeger, brother John Lewis, and both of her parents.
There will be a visitation on Friday, November 1, 2024, from 10 to 11 a.m. with a memorial service following at 11 a.m., all at the Carlson Funeral Home. Interment will take place in the Forest Home Cemetery.
