Ted T. Urban passed away suddenly on Friday, October 18, 2024, at Rennes Health & Rehab Center with his family at his side. He is preceded in death by his wife Rita, parents Teofil and Sophie, along with sisters Lottie, Harriet, Sophie and Victoria.
Ted is survived by children Desiree Urban of Rhinelander, and Vincent (Lisa) Urban of Beaver Dam, granddaughter Tara and great-grandson Aiden, brother Tom (Theda) Urban, and sister Sally Urban of Rhinelander. Also surviving are other family members in the Pelican Lake area and in the southern part of the country.
Ted was born in Chicago and moved to the northwoods of Wisconsin in his teenage years. He attended Elcho High School and dropped out to join the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served his country during the Korean War. After being discharged from the Navy, Ted went back to school and ended up becoming the principal of Elcho High School for many years. (This is the very school he dropped out of.) He also taught mathematics at Elcho High School as well. Ted continued his career as principal at Shiocton High School and retired as the elementary school principal, all while achieving his master’s degree. Ted taught at Tilden High School in Chicago, earlier in his career.
Ted was also an accomplished drummer. He began his musical career playing in Chicago while working his way through college. He also spent many years playing drums for Alvin Styczynski’s Polka Band and with Rogers and Friends from Pulaski. He was on TV weekly with Alvin and recorded many records with both bands.
He loved to play cribbage with his brother, Tom, and his daughter and son. Ted enjoyed telling “Dad” jokes. He always sought the positive in everyone and was well loved by all.
Ted loved to fish and hunt with his son, Vincent, brother Tom, and other family members.
Shortly after Rita’s passing, Ted moved and lived for many years in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
The visitation for Ted, will take place on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Hildebrand Funeral Home, located at 24 E. Davenport Street, from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service. Fr. Chris Kemp will officiate.
Immediately following the service, military honors will be conducted by the Northwoods Honor Guard and by two representatives from the United States Navy.
