Judith Rae Hunter, age 92, of Rhinelander, died on October 15, 2024 at Wausau Aspirus Hospital. She was born on December 5, 1931, in Rhinelander, the daughter of Oral and Clara (Sampson) Wood. She attended schools in Rhinelander, elementary school at Rhinelander Catholic Central and then graduated from the Rhinelander High School. She married the love of her life, Richard Hunter, and God blessed them with 69 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on March 20, 2019. She was a lifelong member of the Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church.
Judy’s greatest loves in life were her Lord and Savior and her family. She was a loving mother to their six children and a willing caretaker of their home that they lived in for over 67 years. She enjoyed taking care of the house, working in the yard and sitting in the sun. She always felt blessed that God gave her the family and home she enjoyed with her time here on earth. She honored those blessings by treating her family and friends with kindness, compassion and a wonderful sense of humor. She extended that loving care to others that she cared for later in life. She will be missed by many including her extended family at Milestone.
Judy is survived by her daughters Pam (Reggie) Gray, Patricia (Larry) Kelly, Peggy (Adam) Freeman, Tammy (Jim) Flory and Tina (Mike Cress) Gatto, her 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, her sisters Janet Huebner and Sarah (John) Kirsch, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. In addition to her husband Richard, she was also preceded in death by her son Tom Hunter, her sisters JoAnne and Carol and her brothers Richard and Thomas.
