Barbara Jean Nelson

Barbara Jean Nelson, (nee Rosio), daughter of the late Elmer and Mary Rosio, was born March 31, 1934, in Rhinelander. She attended Rhinelander public schools and graduated from Rhinelander High School.

She was united in holy matrimony to Carl (Bill) Nelson on July 11, 1953. This union was blessed with four children. Bill Nelson preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 1977, and a grandson, Jake on April 17, 2024.

Barbara was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was an avid and creative quilter, crocheter, knitter, as well as seamstress. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and was a vocal advocate for citizens with developmental disabilities. Barbara served as past-president of the Oneida County Association of Retarded Citizens in the early 1970s. The most beautiful thing about Barbara was her heart. She always had the time to help people. As result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she will be missed by many. 

She peacefully departed this life, Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Daniel Nelson of Rhinelander, David Nelson (Jean Jacobson) of Sun Prairie, Robert Nelson (Paula Williams) of Neenah, and Judy Schnese (Nelson) of Sacramento, Calif.

The visitation for Barbara, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, located at 125 E. King Street, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Memorial Mass. Fr. Chris Kemp will be officiating.

Immediately following the mass there will be a procession to Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery, for the Committal Service.
